The Woman

at the

Ewenny River

A long time, many moons and stars ago, there was a young farmer called Idris sitting down at the banks of the Ewenny River feeding the ducks. When suddenly a gorgeous woman emerged from the depths of the River water dripping of her long golden locks, her eyes glistening in the sunlight like sapphires.

Idris’ mouth dropped open new to love at first sight, his heart pounded like nothing before. Idris pulled himself together and stuttered the words, “Marry me?” she turned around slowly and replied, “I might if you buy me a present.”

So he rushed into town wondering what to buy. Then he saw in a shop, some nice clothes for the woman. He bought them in an instant and sprinted back. Idris gave the woman the lovely clothes and she gave him the answer of, “I will marry but when you were in town I was cursed, and now every day I age a year.”

But because Idris was so happy he was going to marry the woman he did not hear anything she said after I will marry you. The next day they were married and had a great time.

A week after their honeymoon Idris was making breakfast for his lovely wife in bed. So he went up the rickety stairs and into the room suddenly he dropped his coco pops and the prize in side. Then he saw the bones of his wife on his bed.

He gathered the bones and he walked slowly, sobbing as he went, when he got there he threw the bones into the river while saying goodbye lover.

And it is said today that you can still see the bones at the bottom of the river. Have you seen the bones?
