The Magical Dragonflies |

Long, long ago in a town far, far away there lived two girls named Keri and Myar. One sunny day Keri said, “Let’s go for a picnic down by the bank of the Ewenny River.” Myar agreed. So they packed up their homemade, brown bread rolls and their delicious, freshly baked Welsh cakes and set off. When they got there they found a shady spot under a weeping willow tree and sat down on the mossy grass. They opened up their brown, wicker basket and to their amazement… Instead of the food that Keri had packed out fluttered two elegant ebony-white dragonflies. The girls watched in awe as the magical dragonflies circled each other, buzzing faintly over the crystal-clear water. Suddenly the two dragonflies swooped into the river. The once tranquil, trickling water becam e a bubbling pool. Out of the pool arose two magnificent unicorns. Their shiny white coats, glossy from the sun. The unicorn’s horns twinkled and their big, bold eyes gazed at the girls. They found themselves sitting on top of the unicorns long backs and not knowing what they were doing they took a chunk of the unicorns silky, white manes and suddenly the unicorns began to gallop. They galloped along the riverbank. They galloped across the sand dunes. And they galloped along the beach. They going so fast it felt like they were flying. They were heading for the sea. THEY COULDN’T STOP!!! The girls screamed, “HELP, AAHH!!!!” The unicorns back legs sprung of the golden sand and gracefully the unicorns swooped into the sea and the girls were never seen again. Some people say they hear hoofs down by the river bank or, if you’re lucky you’ll see four elegant white dragonflies buzzing over the water. |
